Our orchard metaphor must not be belabored, but perhaps we can already see the thriving rows, as well as a few hardy weeds:

Inspired, perhaps, by his imaginary mistress, so wrote Robert Herrick in 1648, in "Delight In Disorder," though he might have been discussing jazz improvisation. The Fred Waring Award, presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the arts and the community, is initiated by Rick Chamberlain in 1979 during Festival 2, with the initial honor going to the man for whom the award is named.
